The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day they pour out speech, and night to night they reveal knowledge. -- Psalm 19:1-2 ESV
"The chief aim of all investigations of the external world should be to discover the natural order and harmony which has been imposed on it by God and which He has revealed to us through the language of mathematics." -- Kepler (1595)*
*Johannes Kepler was a German astronomer and mathematician who was a key figure in the 17th-century scientific revolution. He is best known for his laws of planetary motion, which provided one of the foundations for Newton's theory of universal gravitation.
Philosophy of Science
Dr. Peters has worked as a Research Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. He is convinced that Science should reveal God's Glory through the observation of the physical world. The study of Nature and the Universe remains one of his deepest passions, and so he strives to bring Glory to the Creator by teaching about His Creation.
An Aerospace Engineer by training (Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics, Stanford University, 1974), Dr. Peters sees the Hand of God in the Design of the Universe; and he recognizes Mathematics as one of the foundations of that Design. God first created Mathematics and Logic; and He then used those tools as the basis of our marvelous, rational, physical universe. Here is a link to some quotes from famous scientists and mathematicians (ranging from Galileo to Einstein), in which they comment on how God, Mathematics, and Creation relate to one another.
Lessons on Science and Faith
From his life experiences, his journey in the Faith, and his study of Science, Dave has prepared a series of Bible Studies called, "Science and Faith." (Click on Science and Faith for an outline of the series.). The following link provides an excerpt from the material used in the introductory lecture of "Science and Faith."
These lessons on Science and Faith were presented by Dr. Peters at Grace & Peace Fellowship in December 2017. In addition, Dr. Peters recently delivered a sermon at Grace & Peace entitled, "The Heavens Declare the Glory of God," which offers a refutation of the myth that the Universe appeared by chance out of chaos, due only to natural causes. One can listen to this sermon at the Grace & Peace website through the following link: Grace and Peace Fellowship. (See page 3 of Dave's sermons there.)
